Bacta-Pur® Natural Liquid Bacteria

All Natural Treatments For Ponds, Wastewater Basins, Lakes and Fish Ponds
I have been a fan of Bacta-Pur® liquid bacteria ever since I visited some pond managers who had tremendous results treating their ponds with the range of natural cultures from Bacta-Pur®. I visited a golf course in South Carolina who had been treating their water hazards with the product called Bacta-PUR® Pond to reduce the algae growth they had been seeing year after year. The product contains a natural, and safe for people and all life forms, mixture of 12 strains of natural bacteria that helps to solubolize organic deposits and actually breaks down sludge and pond and lake waste products into natural fish food! Unlike those harmful algaecides or chemical treatments, using the environmentally friendly beneficial bacteria is a way to actually holistically regenerate and rejuvenate ponds and lakes!

But let me get back to the golf course in SC. The manager has three ponds; one is about 3/4 of an acre and the other two are about 1/3 of an acre. Of course, being a golf course, they fertilize their grass to maintain a sleek surface for golfers, and up to 4 years ago had been using algaecides to fight the green sticky growth on their ponds. Then they brought in new best management practices based on ideals developed and learned at the NALMS, the North American Lake Management Society, where the golf course superintendent inaugurated a no-mow zone around the water hazards and began a regular treatment with natural liquid bacteria as well as a long-lasting concentrated pond-dye.

The Bacta-PurŪ System was developed by aquatic ecologists, based on the following principals:
• The Earth and its habitants are our common universal heritage.
• Solutions to today's problems must consider intergenerational equity; future generations must also benefit not be burdened.
•“Chemotherapy” of Mother Nature must stop.
• Environmental protection must be cost effective.
• Purely biological solutions (not disguised toxic chemicals as others use) and understanding of ecological principles are keys to attaining the above.

Fields of application include:
• Wastewater treatment (domestic, municipal, industrial, agricultural)
• Water body restoration and water quality improvement - reversal of eutrophication from lakes and bays to farm, golf and garden ponds to aquaria.
• Fresh and salt water aquaculture - increasing survival, growth, feed conversion efficiency and sustainability, from ponds and raceways to sea food holding systems.

The IET-Aquaresearch Ltd multidisciplinary team has decades of both practical and technical expertise in wastewater treatment, aquaculture, water body restoration, ecological engineering, industrial fermentation and microbial ecology. Understanding the processes involved in these different fields is one of our strengths. We provide the technical support essential to attaining the desired results cost-effectively and with respect for the environment. Technology transfer across different fields of activity is ongoing and is a key to successful use of the Bacta-PurŪ System.

Improves water quality, reduces ammonia and nitrates, helps control algae naturally & removes pond muck, shock-treatment and cold water treatments. I have used and seen used the liquid bacteria called Bacta-PUR® ever since I became a believer after seeing that golf-course. When I did a little research into this Canadian company who actually "creates" this incredible safe liquid pond bacteria I came to understand that this International Company known as IET-Aquaresearch LTD, based in Canada with offices in Europe, has become one of the most prestigious and premier suppliers of Government Approved cultures for pond remediation in North America and surely throughout the world.

Bacta-Pur® Pond
Bacta-Pur® POND is what I like to use as a mixture between XLG and N-3000, or better yet...it is the best of both worlds that uses the denitrification properties of N-3000 plus the sludge and muck devouring properties of XLG to create one exceptional pond bacteria. This is the standard bacteria I recommend for most ponds or private lakes. It's a good product that has passed several reviews and has the references to back-up the claims of effectiveness.

A proprietary mixture of 12 strains of bacteria to help maintain clarity of water to the strict secchi disc parameters as well as the ability to solubolize organic sediments and, waste products, sediment and sludge and turn them into fish food basically! This product is recommended for ponds and lakes from 8,000 gallons to 30 acres. Please ask us for dosages and application rates as the rate of application for pond bacteria is not always a consistent ratio with large water bodies!

Bacta-Pur® XLG
Bacta-Pur® XLG contains 16 strains of natural, pathogen-free bacteria specifically designed for decomposing organic sediments in ponds. This is what we often call muck or sludge. The voracious organic bacteria in XLG literally consume all organic materials in ponds and are a key tool when we are attempting to reestablish depth in a pond that has an unwanted accumulation of muck and smelly sludge at the bottom.

Bacta-Pur® XLG is an ideal bacteria in colder waters and we often use it in tandem with a dry bacteria that has certain temperature parameters that must be respected because the XLG can be added to any water body at any temperature as long as there is not any ice covering the pond.

I often treat the ponds I am taking care of with a dosage of XLG in the Autumn and in the Spring. In a way a pond is like a swimming pool because shock treatment at the beginning and end of the season is a really good idea. We would never use chlorine to treat algae or muck in a pond because it can be toxic to life but the use of a natural bacteria can only help in restore the cycle of life because the consumption of nutrients and elements by the bacteria create food for fish, insects and frogs.

When you are doing an end of season cold-water treatment with the XLG to help remove leaves that have fallen in to the pond or lake I recommend about 2 gallons for every surface acre of the XLG followed by another treatment two or three weeks later. So if you have a pond of 1 acre I would treat with 2 gallons as soon as the water temperature reaches 40 degrees Fahrenheit or around 5 degrees Celsius and then follow up with an equal application two or 3 weeks later.

This regime would be repeated in the Spring. As soon as the ice has gone, if you have ice in your location, do a shock-treatment with 2 gallons per surface acre. Follow the initial treatment with an equal-size application in two weeks. This is an ideal shock treatment! The cultures in this natural pond bacteria do an incredible job of keeping waters clear and reducing the muck buildup at the bottom. This is the bacteria that has been so successful in doing what they call "bio-dredging" where the use of microbes has replaced the mechanical digging and removal of pond and lake sediments. This bacterial mixture comes with activators which should be added, mixed and activated according to the directions. If you have any questions on the application of liquid bacteria please email us.

Bacta-Pur® Sludgebusters
Bacta-Pur® Sludgebusters is effective at biodegrading waste and sludge waste buildups that accumulate on the bottom of ponds, water-gardens and lakes. The sludge layer, which can have a sulfur smell or a thick rancid odor like a musty organic fart, can result from a buildup of fish food that has been uneaten by koi or trout or any fish as well as leaves from trees that lose their leaves after the Autumn Solstice.

This decomposing waste material from uneaten food, leaves and fish and bird poop can accumulate and turn into a black thick sludge that can cause the clogging of pumps, filters and pond pumps! These decomposing nutrients and resulting chemical buildups can produce noxious odors and even toxic gases that could cause fish-kills or other problems! Using Bacta-Pur Sludgebusters will enable you to biodegrade these wastes and compounds which, when used properly and regularly, will result in less pollution, less ammonia, stress and diseases!

Pond owners know that there are two common forms of algae that are bound to show their mucky green faces at one time or another in the life of a pond. Often a pond will suffer bouts with algae many times during a season. While there are chemicals to help knockdown algae my approach is to use natural methods of algae control.

Bacta-Pur® N3000
Bacta-Pur® N3000 is the ultimate mixture of 12 strains of bacteria for nitrite and ammonia removal. The effective liquid is renowned for nitrate reduction (denitrification) as well as complete nitrite removal (nitrification). This clean mixture accelerates the startup of biofilters and of course one of the benefits we love beside the reduction of ammonia is reduced nitrite accumulation!

What is the size of the typical bacteria cells, if I can call them cells, in the product?
In the Bacta-pur mixture, just as in any natural selection of bacteria there are thousands of "strains" of bacteria but with the pond and lake bacteria in these selections there are basically two major groups. Heterotrophs are a bit like us TV watchin' humans in that they absorb Carbon. The typical bacterial cell in the liquid mixture is an elongated, often rod-shaped bacteria that is typically .2 microns wide and maybe 4 to 6 microns wide depending on how much duckweed the poor single-celled creature ate at lunch! Autotrophs use the inorganic carbon just like plants do (that's carbonate or carbon dioxide to the rest of us mortals) These are cocci-shaped bacteria usually .2 - .4 microns in diameter and are a round to oval shape.

What do these bacteria do?
Just like every single living thing on the planet Earth, every cell in the strains of these products have a instilled natural biological directive to eat and reproduce. Every cell, creature, person or living entity must compete with each other and with predators. Each strain of bacteria can only do one job, often just like us...according to my wife anyway I'm, only good for a few mundane tasks like taking out the trash!
These bacteria work best when the water pH is between 6 and 8.5. The optimal pH balance is 7.5. When activating your bacteria the temperature should be between 34 degrees F and 104 degrees F or 1 degrees Celsius and 40 decrees Celsius..

What do these bacteria eat?
These individual strains are very specific; they will not eat a Number 3 BK Trio, instead each little soldier will digest and attack to consume a certain type of fat, protein, carbohydrate, cellulose or hydrocarbon. Each little cell, once it has been released in to the proper environment will consume the fat, grease oil or animal sludge depending on certain critical variables.

How fast do they grow?
These single celled menaces can grow incredibly quick! A standard population of some good old-fashioned heterotrophic bacteria can double every twenty minutes! This rapid reproduction quickly creates new strains and mutations that cause even more disturbance in the traditional forces!

Is this natural pond bacteria any good?
We have seen a number of dry bacteria that claim to have 1 billion active cells, or 5 billion active cells! The liquid bacteria is guaranteed to have a minimum of 10 to the 11th power of active cells/ml. That is huge! That is 100,000,000,000 active and hungry cells in a single milliliter! We use it, have seen it used, and sell it: it works...that's the bottom line! Of course it has to share a bit of the spotlight with the dry bacteria mixtures but that doesn't lessen the impact you will feel when using the product!

Bacteria and Pond Health Principles of Pond Health Management First of all, use of Bacta-Pur assures the presence of a balanced community of strains, which can produce all essential enzymes to digest the different organic components of manure. The enzymes produced and released by the bacteria cause solubilization of solids. The community of bacteria then works together where the by-product of the metabolism of one strain provides food for another. Secondly, preactivation, the on-site technique of physiological engineering optimizes enzyme production, prior to bringing the cultures in contact with the solids to be digested. CO2 is an end product of bacterial activity. Bacterial growth decreases the quantity of carbon in the manure due to losses of CO2. This increases the relative concentration nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium and improves the fertilizer value of the treated manure. Solids Reduction with Bacta-Pur Bacta-Pur XLG is one of the most concentrated cultures available; the guaranteed minimal cell count exceeds 10x11 cells/ml, which is more than 1000 times other brands
2. The BactaPur System for water quality improvement in decorative ponds consists of : BactaPur Klear - a balance community of microorganisms for the reduction of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Reduces soluble phosphorous levels and improves water quality and clarity. BactaPur Nutripak - growth enhancers to assure the presence of essential nutrients for healthy growth of the beneficial BactaPur microorganisms. Trace elements can naturally reduce over time; BactaPur Nutripak replenishes these instantly. BactaPur Sludgebusters - a balanced community of microorganisms to biodegrade organic wastes (sludge, fish waste, etc). Reduces the occurrence of oxygen deficient sludge areas and reduces odor production (methane, hydrogen sulfide etc) BactaPur Pro-100 (new!) Prevention is better than cure! BactaPur Pro-100 is a selected community of beneficial microorganisms for preventive probiotic treatment of ponds. It helps boost your fishes Eco-Immunity and helps to prevent the development of diseases. Surround your fishes with beneficial BactaPur microorganisms. Use of BactaPur is called bacterial augmentation (bioaugmentation). Hardly a day passes when we don't benefit from the similar seeding of microorganisms to achieve specific results: whether from the yeast seeded to make wine, bread or beer, to the bacteria (microorganisms) used to make cheeses or yogurts, etc. Benefits of Treatment with the BactaPur System The BactaPur Klear and BactaPur Sludgebusters added to your pond attacks both the solid and soluble pollution (excess fish food, fish waste etc). The microorganisms in BactaPur use these wastes as food for their growth. The by-products of this natural process are water, carbon dioxide and bacterial biomass, which is rich in protein. In a pond with koi, goldfish or other animals there is very little accumulation of bacteria, because the animals eat the microbial biomass. Thus, wastes are converted by BactaPur into natural food for your fishes and other pond animals. BactaPur Pro-100 is a probiotic that helps improve your fishes health; just like the probiotic benefits we get from eating foods like yogurt ( a product of bioaugmentation), your fishes benefit in the same way. Boost your fishes Eco-Immunity. Regular use of the BactaPur family of products assures the presence of a balanced community of microorganisms to optimize water quality and provide a healthy environment for your fishes.

4. Bacta-PurŪ Sludgebusters A sludge layer tends to form on the bottom of ponds that have been in use for a few years. This is caused by sedimentation of both garden and undigested fish wastes. Excess waste accumulates on the bottom of the pond in dead corners and in drains. The wastes may cause clogging in pumps and filters. Decomposing wastes produces toxic gasses, which cause noxious odours and may be the source of serious problems if the surface of the pond freezes. Bacta-PurŪ Sludgebusters contains beneficial micro-organisms that will efficiently biodegrade this kind of waste. Regular use prevents accumulation of organic solids so that drains, pumps and filters require minimal cleaning. -Coarse sediments, such as leaves, should be removed manually whenever possible by removing organic waste. The beneficial micro-organisms in Bacta-PurŪ Sludgebusters eliminate the causes for noxious odours and reduce oxygen demand in the water, so that more oxygen is made available to the fish. The end result of bacterial activity is a reduction of the amount of phosphate available to algae, and a biomass with a high protein in content that serves as food for all "animals" in the pond. Less organic waste means less pollution, less ammonia . . . less stress and less disease.

Bacta-PurŪ LITHAQUA is a marine mineral with a high content of minerals trace elements and carbonates. It brings them into your pond and thereby adjusts the mineral balance and improves the water quality. Use it as pond substrate for bacteria to grow on and for fish to play in or use it as a filter medium. Modern multi-chamber filters, contain mainly plastic media. Those are excellent supports for bacteria but, they do not add anything to water quality. It is important to fill at least one filter chamber (preferably the last chamber) with Bacta-PurŪ LITHAQUA.

It provides an enormous surface area for bacteria (10 to 20 times more than most plastic filter media) and provides the bacteria with essential nutrients. Bacta-PurŪ LITHAQUA neutralises acid pH and helps to restore carbonate alkalinity. It provides a natural environment, on which bacteria in Bacta-PurŪ KLEAR and Bacta-PurŪ Sludgebusters can grow. It is an essential aid to achieve a clear and healthy pond.
